Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Nom Nom Wednesday Review: Extra Dessert Delights

Willy Wonka: Don't you know what this is?
Violet Beauregarde: By gum, it's gum.
Willy Wonka: [happily, but sarcastically] Wrong! It's the most amazing, fabulous, sensational gum in the whole world.
Violet Beauregarde: What's so fab about it?
Willy Wonka: This little piece of gum is a three-course dinner.
Mr. Salt: Bull.
Willy Wonka: No, roast beef. But I haven't got it quite right yet.

My friends and I, especially those with a sweet tooth perpetually watching their waistlines, are abuzz about this new "dessert gum".  With flashbacks of Violet Beauregarde in all her blueberry bloated splendor, I hesitantly popped the Key Lime Pie flavor in my mouth a few months ago and have been hooked... especially in the afternoon when I'm craving something sweet.  Yep, the gum is SUGAR FREE (5 cals), though artificially flavored.  Not much "natural" about this gum except that it does stave off the munchies, naturally.

Now let me be honest: I'm not mad about the mint chocolate chip flavor and all the fruit flavors are a bit, well, artificial tasting for my mature taste buds though not gritty/sugary like Bubble Yum.  But for gum, it's both smooth and tart, and the flavor lasts as long as it should... and then a bit longer, living up to its "Extra" good reputation.  The package is fun and bright, and fun to share after a spicy or garlicky meal.

Wonka would remind us that we live in a world of pure imagination.  What flavor gum would YOU like to see Extra create for you?
