Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Marathon motivated? This is Parkour.

Parkour Toronto: amazing!
The Boston Marathon is days away, and Beantown is gearing up. You can't watch the news without learning tips from trainers, tales of courage, and heartwarming stories. I'm most certainly not a runner, but I can understand it is a great way to exercise, escape, and even meditate.
And then there's Parkour.

This blog is geared toward what is shiny and new (or at least new to you), so I thought Marathon Madness would be a good excuse to introduce you to the sport of Parkour (pron. "par-CORE").  Different than long distance and spawned many years ago from "free" or "natural" running, Parkour is martial arts meets-James Bond-meets-urban ninja: by definition, the art of moving through the environment as swiftly and effectively as possible using only the human body. Bench in the way? Go over it. Balconies and walls? Scale 'em. Buildings? Jump 'em. See parkour in action by clicking here.  See "The Office" tv show's parody version here. (Funny stuff.)

Motivated to move this weekend? Don't try Parkour at home, amateurs... these are trained masters. You can try walking before you can run... and running before you parkour.
