Monday for many of our friends means no work, no school, no commitments. So where will our monkey troop be before 8a on Labor Day?
The football field.
For a few years, we've been participating in Pop Warner football and cheer - a fabulous, frustrating, enriching, entrancing, exhilarating and exhausting labor of love, with August gobbled up by daily training camp and September and October weekends eaten up by football games. Factor in fundraisers, volunteer time, events, injury prevention and extra conditioning time, uniform cleanup and laundry, and travel time, and you've got yourself a solid football season.
Why bother, you ask?
Why do scrapbookers scrapbook? Why do runners run? Why do chefs labor over a great marinara sauce? What makes a muskrat guard his musk? What do they got that I ain't got? Courage! No, wait.... derailed...
But seriously: What's the secret sauce in any "labor of love" like Pop Warner football? Passion. Enthusiasm. Connecting with other kids/adults over a common purpose. It's what makes us human... and what makes us tick. Fascinating and fabulous.
Tell us: what are YOU passionate about this fall, and why?
To sweeten the deal: One random comment will be selected on Wednesday to win a shiny new "My Shiny Monkey" t-shirt! (Note: US residents only may win; all may comment.)
P.S. I know this is not what our Labor Day holiday is all about, but it made for a snappy headline.
Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.
