Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Shiny Saturday Giveaway 3/5
Hello monkey friends! Today's another happy Saturday, and that means....
a Shiny Saturday giveaway!
Just a quick shout out to two previous winners:
Erika Souza (movie tix) and Melanie Alvarez (more movie tix). Email your snail mail deets to myshinymonkey@gmail.com.
New contest:
Shiny Monkeys like March because the days get longer and daylight savings time (spring forward) gives us the gift of light. This year, we spring forward on Sunday, March 13th... circadian rhythms kick in, and our tweens and yes, even our pets, get more active at night (more exercise before bed!). Nobody's getting to bed, and won't wake up as easily until we get back on schedule. (DST is quite controversial, too!)
Shiny Saturday Giveaway: Get your Google on! Daylight savings time was invited in the late 1800s by a British gentleman named George Vernon Hudson, who had one interesting career other than inventing DST. Name his primary job... and a hint: monkeys study these same "subjects" as closely as George, and the answer is not bananas.
A winner will be chosen at random and will win a great "time" with two free passes to the Museum of Science to learn about time, space and other fascinating topics!

Greg Vernon Hudson studied insects!
Good morning!! I'm stopping by from Bloggy Moms to FOLLOW and say HELLO. Looking forward to your visit @ www.havingfunsaving.com
Take care, Tracy
Well, my handy wikipedia tells me he was an entomologist studying bugs. Fascinating, but not really for me. But I have been wanting to get over to the MOS!
