Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Sticking with Pinterest, a shiny new style tool

Back in the old days of our grandparents/greatgrandparents, "getting pinned" meant that you were serious with your boyfriend and he would give you his fraternity pin to wear as a pledge, a pre-engagement gift.  I'm not old enough to know first hand, but I'm told that it was a badge of coolness.

We've recently discovered a cool new website that we are stuck on... and we are in the throes of courtship. I've been visiting nights and weekends (after homework is done), and it's quite distracting.  I'm talking not about a boyfriend with a pin, but Pinterest.com, a website that allows people to create virtual "boards" (think bulletin board meets digital scrapbook, mostly photos and videos) and categorize them so they are organized and easy to find similar boards (fashion, humor, food/recipes, for the home, travel, etc.).  You organize your boards by category/type, then you pin on photos, videos, text, whatever you find fascinating and pin-worthy. You can also peruse other public boards, and "like" or "repin" (pin on your own board) something on someone else's interactive board on to your own boards. You can follow someone's boards (privacy alert) too, especially if they are a friend or trendspotter. It's a great way to discover new products, style trends, and really funny things... kind of like StumbleUpon, but much more visually interesting.

I've made my own board for tweens comprised of shiny new things that I've never seen before. Check it out: http://pinterest.com/dennehypr/tween-day-just-for-kids-8-14/ and follow my board... I'll be pinning often!
