Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Shiny Movie Review: The Secret World of Arrietty

This is a shiny movie review of "The Secret World of Arrietty," a Disney animated sci-fi movie now out in theaters. The movie is created by Studio Ghibli, the team behind the Academy Award-winning film Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and many more... if you love films that take place in an imaginary world that interacts with the real world, you'll love this film. If you love stars from the Disney Channel, you'll love this film. If you appreciate careful detail and almost zen-like fascination with the interaction between nature and humans, you'll love this film. But read on for Liv's review:

Once upon a time, there was a world full of little people called Borrowers. This is a world where Arrietty and her mom and dad live in. In the movie there is a 13 year old girl who loves to go on adventures. Her name was Arrietty. Bridget Mendler from Good Luck Charlie, on the Disney Channel, plays Arrietty. Steven Henrie from Wizards of Waverly Place plays Shawn, a loveable boy who discovers little Arrietty during one of her adventures. Shawn spots Arrietty in the Garden and again on her first borrowing.

The borrowers' rules are if a “being” sees you, you have to move away from were you are living so you will be safe. At the time he discovered Arrietty, Shawn didn’t know that rule. Haru, Shawn's housekeeper, was mean and wanted to trap and get rid of the so called “little people.” Before long, Shawn came around and helped Arrietty find her mother, who Haru trapped.

This was a great movie! I would give it 4 out of a possible 5 bananas. Thanks for reading my posts. If you missed it, check out my post this week for a great tween book review of Dork Diaries, too!
