Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Summer Movies: Thumbs Up!

Man, we love movies of all kinds: wacky comedies, weepy dramas, westerns, way-out thrillers, and Walt Disney's new and classic animated features.  Rainy summer weekends are a great time to snuggle together in a dark movie theater and watch a movie and munch some popcorn in an air-conditioned building where the dishes and laundry are in a galaxy far, far away...

And man, we love summer movie previews. Building the suspense and giving us a taste of what's to come... those previews really whet our appetite for celluloid.

Instead of re-hashing the summer movie previews that other writers have worked hard to put together, we give a great big shiny thank you to the superheroes at Common Sense Media. These writers and editors put together a gosh darn great nonprofit educational website reviewing and critiquing all manners of media (TV, movies, gaming) in an intelligent way.

So a big thumbs up to Sandie Angulo Chen at Common Sense Media for writing a terrific summer movie month-by-month "cheat sheet" (Common Sense Media, 4/25/11) that you can print out and put on the fridge for the family to see... and us to review this summer!

In our household, I know two tweens who are super excited to see Kung Fu Panda 2, Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, Super 8, Zookeeper (wicked awesome shooting in Beantown!), Spy Kids 4, and even Mr. Popper's Penguins look entertaining.  I'm trying to find a younger kid to come with me to see Winnie the Pooh or Smurfs - any volunteers?

Click here for Sandie Angulo Chen's terrific article in its entirety, and write in the comments which one YOU are excited about and we'll pick one random commenter to win a free movie ticket on us!
