Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Dork Diaries: a very dorky book review

I need to tell you about this awesome new tween girl book. Its called The Dork Diaries by Rachel Russell.
The Dork Diaries is a series of books about a girl Nikki and her two friends Zoey and Chloe who are all dorks. This is the second book in the series, Tales From a Not So Popular Party Girl. In the book, they face their rival Mackenzie Hollister while trying hard not to embarrass herself in front of her crush, Brandon.

Nikki gets pressured into helping with the school Halloween Dance, but her rival Mackenzie is the chairperson. When Mackenzie quits because Brandon asks Nikki to the dance, Nikki steps up to be the chairperson even though she's a dork.

Nikki is in a dilemma - she also has to help her little sister's dance school Halloween party where she has to dress up in a stinky smelly rat costume for the little ballerinas, and she promises her crush that she'd be his date for the Halloween dance. She also has to please her friends while wearing dorky trash bag costume for her BFFs.

It is going to be hard for her to do all of that in one night without anyone knowing she’s lying to everyone. What will Nikki do? Read the book to find out!

This was a great book. I would give it 4 out of 5 bananas. If you liked Diary Of a Wimpy Kid, you will also like this book. Dork Diaries seems to be better for the girls, and Diary Of a Wimpy Kid can be better for boys.
