Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Response to Maditude... thanks Momtini Lounge!

Well, our shiny tweeps agreed that mad tweens are a force to be reckoned with, and then I saw this great post from my friend Amy over at the Momtini Lounge. After attending a talk by PEP (Parent Encouragement Program)’s Education Coordinator, Patti Cancellier, she suggests to her blog readers that the secret sauce is empowerment... giving our angry birds a "guided choice" where they can choose between a handful of acceptable options, increasing empowerment and compliance.

Here are two tips served up by the Momtini Lounge... click here for more:

Give a limited choice, not free choice – “Do you want to be your own homework boss, or do you want me to?”

– Avoid wishy washy limits, training kids there’s plenty of room to bend/break the rules, and repeated requests, training kids to simply ignore the requests.
Great tips! If you have more, please reply in the comments below or via twitter @myshinymonkey.
