Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

A Whale of A Day - SeaWorld Comes To Boston

What a great day!  Today I was invited by the good folks at one of my favorite theme parks, SeaWorld, to come to a MomCentral bloggers' luncheon at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge to learn more about their exotic animals and what's new at their family of theme parks.  The timing couldn't be better: we just scrapped our trip for February vacation for warmer weather during April vacation.

After meeting the trainers who introduced us to a Roseate Spoonbill (so cool, missing a wing so now serving as a permanent "animal ambassador"), an alligator (round nose, not pointed like a crocodile), and Penny and Peter Penguins (see pic above).  Boston Parents Bloggers Network members were out in full force with their kids, asking great questions and learning more about what SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Aquatica and Discovery Cove.  My tween daughter asked why penguins like both hot and cold climates (adaptation) and she's thinking that Busch Gardens and Aquatica, the new water park, might be a good April plan.

What was fun to see is that not only is SeaWorld moving forward with new parks, new attractions, and new ways to have fun and learn, but they are doing some pretty cool social media things too.  Today they streamed live video of a turtle rescue in Florida, have a Twitter feed @seaworld, subscriber "SeaMail," and a blog to help engage fans in what is happening in both education and entertainment at the parks and all over the country.  Pretty cool stuff.

Mostly, we got a chance to ask good questions, have fun and learn a bit, and meet some trainers face to face to learn that they truly love their jobs.  Imagine rooming with Penny and Peter and keeping the window open in the middle of a Boston February just to keep the room around 50 degrees! Now that's dedication.  Tell me your SeaWorld memory... click on add a comment, below.

Bonus: getting to "sea" all my new mom blogger friends again, and meet their adorable kiddos!

Jake and I went to Sea World San Antonio (about 2 weeks after we were all there) and we had a blast! He was too small for a lot of the rides, but we loved the shows. He announced he wanted to be a diver with the Beluga whales! Sea World had a great iPhone app that was fabulous for tracking when and where the shows were. Love the blog!!
