Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Nom Nom Wednesday Review: Code Blue Recovery Drink

Starting this week, we'll be reviewing unique food/drinks we uncover in the jungle that is our local supermarket or convenience store.

NOM NOM - Beverage Review: Code Blue Recovery Drink

Review: 4 out of 5 bananas. Although the shiny "bullet" style slim can looks like a typical energy drink, it is not. It is a caffeine free, fat free, light carbonation, and a 40-calorie functional beverage. Overall, Code Blue delivers on refreshment, health benefits, and cool factor. Safe for teens/tweens, yet still hip enough to carry around... and a great option for parents who want soda-loving tweens to lay off the fizzy stuff altogether.

Taste review: Tropical flavor (pear), carbonated with pure filtered water, best served really cold - very refreshing and light and a welcome switch from flavored, sugary waters/sports drinks. Colored blue from real blueberries and sweetened with Stevia so a nice light, sweet, fruity pear flavor (pear may take a little getting used to).

    Specs: slim8 oz can, 1.5 servings/can; 40 cals/serving, zero fat or caffeine
Price: may vary; about $3.49, sold in four-, six-, 12-packs

Nutritional chops: no caffeine, 165% of daily value of vitamin B6, 340% for vitamin B12, 20% of RDA of Niacin (B3) and 10% each for vitamins C and E, purified water

Propaganda sez: "Experience the world's first complete recovery drink... powerful all natural ingredients... helping the body combat dehydration (electrolytes); replenish vital nutrients (vitamin and mineral complex D-Ribose, Sustamine); remove harmful toxins (antioxidants N-Acetyl-Cysteine, milk thistle), and reduce inflammation (prickly pear extract). Many ingredients not found in leading sports drinks or enhanced waters. Website has more science than you need to know about a beverage, but an interesting read.

Shiny Monkey sez: great pear taste, few cals/0 fat/0 caffeine make this a great product for those seeking an alternative to bland water and sugary sports drinks when you need hydration. Bonus for the shiny can.
