Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Nom Nom Wednesday Review: Weight Watchers Dark Chocolate Raspberry bar

There's a shiny new dessert in our household:
Weight Watchers Dark Chocolate Raspberry ice cream bars!

We love fruit bars, ice cream and recently, black raspberry chip ice cream... imagine our delight when we saw this treat in our frozen food section. Each bar has a rich dark chocolate crunchy coating and low-fat raspberry ice cream on the inside.  The chocolate is as sweet as you'd imagine... like a naughty treat from DQ but yet...

What we love most about these bars is that they are the perfect size, not too small, and only 80 calories per bar, 2 grams of protein, and zero grams of trans fat per bar. Bad news: 4.5g of fat, which isn't bad for ice cream treat. (A typical Good Humor chocolate ice cream bar on a stick is 160 cals, 10g of fat.) Another black raspberry option is Ben & Jerry's low-fat fro-yo... 160 cals, 1.5g of fat in a 1/2 cup. But frozen yogurt isn't ice cream... I honestly like this WW product better.

The package comes with 12 bars inside - another bonus for a busy household who loves dessert - you don't have to buy as many boxes and this will last us the week, unlike the 4- or 6-pack novelty boxes we can actually fit in our freezer (sorry BJs.).

We give this treat four out of a possible five bananas -- could be healthier and a bit creamier on the ice cream side, but that'd require more calories. :)
