Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Teen Choice Awards - The recap

Hello friends! We are home from our family vacation just in time to see the 2011 Teen Choice Award highlights... and recap all that's new and shiny about this annual awards show that aired last night on Fox.

No surprises really: Taylor Swift (6 awards), Selena Gomez (5), and the Harry Potter and Twilight film series got the majority of the 100 million (a new record!) votes and took home more surfboard shaped trophies than anyone else.  Justin Bieber, who my tweens say is on the decline in their circles, showed no sign of weakness either, taking home four awards including best male artist - one less than his confirmed girlfriend Selena Gomez.  One surprise was CW's "Vampire Diaries" show, taking home three awards... the public have spoken, and vampires and wizards are still awesome.  Glee, our fave, won the coveted TV Show: Comedy award, and the cast took a bow; cast members Corew Monteith and Darren Criss promo'd the upcoming Glee 3D Concert film, which we'll review in a few weeks.

Disappointments: Angelina Jolie for action movie actress, Jersey Shore for best (?) reality show, and Cameron Diaz for her role in Bad Teacher, rated R. Super.

Inspirations: Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift winning personal achievement awards, two young women who have certainly had their challenges but still emerge smiling.  I was also inspired that they recognized the Harry Potter franchise, bringing in Daniel Radcliffe by satellite (cool), and that Robert Pattinson won another award for his mature, dramatic role in Water for Elephants. Again, not for kids, but an amazing film based on an amazing book.

Oh Ashton, did Demi Moore ever tell you that you are NOT a teen anymore...?
