Thanks for swinging in! Writing with a bunch of smart young people, we blog about the monkey business of life with tweens 8-15, and love anything shiny and new. Book/movie/game reviews, shopping, nom nom snacks, OMG news and issues, pop stars, and YouTube LOLs are fair game in this jungle.

Bullying comes in many disguises

Have you ever heard these words?
"Sorry, all these seats are taken."
"Have a nice TRIP!"
"You can't be my friend if you are friends with HER."
"You are a #$&!& if you don't play this video game with us tonight."
"What's the matter? Are you too scared to...?"
"Let's not tell her we are going... we don't want to be seen with her."
Rachel Berry: beautiful. Talented. Bullied.
Bullying isn't just the mean big kid fighting the weaker kid in the schoolyard, or giving a slushie facial to the geek in the hallway. Bullying has many faces, and it's important to understand that bullying hurts no matter what kind of makeup you put on that face and no matter how you spread it (online or in real life):

VERBAL - saying or writing mean things:
Teasing
Name-calling
Inappropriate sexual comments
Taunting
Threatening to cause harm

SOCIAL - hurting someone’s reputation or relationships:
Leaving someone out on purpose
Telling other children not to be friends with someone
Spreading rumors about someone
Embarrassing someone in public

PHYSICAL - hurting a person’s body or possessions:
Hitting/kicking/pinching
Spitting
Tripping/pushing
Taking or breaking someone’s things
Making mean or rude hand gestures
